This step by step jailbreak guide will help you jailbreak your Iphone 3GS with OS 3.0 installed on it. We use Redsn0w 0.8, with this tool you are also able jailbreak other Apple devices. We preformed this jailbreak with the “help” of a Windows computer but of course you can also work with the Mac!

Requirements:
* A computer with Windows
* An iPhone 3GS
* 3GS iPhone firmware (download)
* Redsn0w (download)

1. Create a folder on your desktop with Pwnage. Download the firmware, but keep it in the format *. ipsw. So not unpack the firmware yet! Get redsn0w from the Pwnage folder.

2. Open iTunes and make sure you have iTunes 8.2. Go to the top, Help, About. Do you not have iTunes 8.2 then Search Update and  iTunes will update it. If you do have iTunes 8.2, you can connect your iPhone 3GS and restore. Hold Shift key and press “Restore”. It opens a window where you must choose the firmware 3.0. In this step by step guide we are going to jailbreak an iPhone 3GS  with firmware 3.0. GeoHot has just released purplera1n to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS . 1. Connect your iPhone to 3GS and open purplera1n (for Windows Vista users: Run purplera1in in Windows XP SP2 compability mode).

2. Press “make it ra1n” and it will notify  “waiting for reboot”. It will reboot in recovery mode and you’ll see the purplera1n image/logo.

The iPhone Dev Team recommends to everyone who wants jailbreak an 3GS iPhone, to get an IBEC and the signed IBSS before the iPhone firmware 3.1 is released. With firmware 3.1 jailbreak would possible not work any more and therefore it is important to do that now. Because you have a signed IBSS and IBEC  for your iPhone 3GS, you are able t0 upload exploits to your iPhone without Apple’s servers make trouble for a valid ECID.  This is an important step to succesfully jailbreak your Iphone 3GS. During obtaining the IBEC and the IBSS we need to restore the Iphone 3GS twice within iTunes. First make a proper backup of  all your important information and data of your iPhone through iTunes. NOTE: Getting an IBEC and IBSS is not as easy as jailbreaken with redsn0w 0.7, some experience is required.

1. Go to ‘Start’, ‘Run’ and type in% TEMP%. It opens a window with the Windows TEMP directory.

2. Go to “Organize” (Windows Vista and 7) and for XP to ‘Tools’ and ‘Folder Options’. It opens in both cases the same screen. Go to “View” and ensure that “Show hidden files, folders and drivers’ is on. Press OK and leave the window open (IMPORTANT). Read more»
