The iPhone Dev Team recommends to everyone who wants jailbreak an 3GS iPhone, to get an IBEC and the signed IBSS before the iPhone firmware 3.1 is released. With firmware 3.1 jailbreak would possible not work any more and therefore it is important to do that now. Because you have a signed IBSS and IBEC  for your iPhone 3GS, you are able t0 upload exploits to your iPhone without Apple’s servers make trouble for a valid ECID.  This is an important step to succesfully jailbreak your Iphone 3GS. Check out our site about how to obtain an official ECID certificate. We recommend doing this first.

During obtaining the IBEC and the IBSS we need to restore the Iphone 3GS twice within iTunes. First make a proper backup of  all your important information and data of your iPhone through iTunes. NOTE: Getting an IBEC and IBSS is not as easy as jailbreaken with redsn0w 0.7, some experience is required.

1. Go to ‘Start’, ‘Run’ and type in% TEMP%. It opens a window with the Windows TEMP directory.

2. Go to “Organize” (Windows Vista and 7) and for XP to ‘Tools’ and ‘Folder Options’. It opens in both cases the same screen. Go to “View” and ensure that “Show hidden files, folders and drivers’ is on. Press OK and leave the window open (IMPORTANT).

3. Download the iPhone 3.0 firmware 3GS (NOTE: NOT accidentally download a beta of firmware 3.1) and put it into a folder “Pwnage” on your desktop.

4. Open iTunes and connect your iPhone 3GS.
NOTE: Now comes the part where you must obtain IBEC. If iTunes will restore the iPhone 3GS is signed by IBEC, which we need in the TEMP directory. The folder has a PerXXX.tmp default setup (the characters behind PerXXX.tmp may vary). This map needs to be copied as soon as possible to the Pwnage folder on your desktop. This folder contains your IBEC.  iTunes will automaticly will delete the source folder with your IBEC.

5. Hold the Shift key and press “Restore”. It opens a window, go to the Pwnage folder and select the 3.0 firmware for the iPhone 3GS. When iTunes says “Extracting firmware, go to the TEMP directory and wait until a folder called PerXXX.tmp appears. Copy this folder and put it in the Pwnage folder. Do this as quickly as possible, because iTunes will also delete this folder automaticly. We now have the signed IBEC.

6. If the iPhone is ready to restore 3GS you have to wait to restore the  the back-up copy. We still need to have the IBSS. We can only get if we restore the iPhone 3GS thorugh DFU mode. Make sure your Iphone 3GS is in DFU mode, otherwise we can not get IBSS.

7. iTunes will notify you that an iPhone in recovery mode is detected (which is actually the DFU mode). Press OK again and restore your iPhone by Shift + ‘Restore’.

8. Once iTunes will unpack the firmware files, we return to the TEMP directory and go to the  folder PerXXX.tmp. Copy that folder to the Pwnage folder on your desktop. Do this again as soon as possible, iTunes will delete the folder.

9. When iTunes has finished you can restore the backup copy to your Iphone. If everything went ok you will find in the Pwnage / PerXXX.tmp / Firmware / dfu folder  2 files: iBEC.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu and iBSS.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu. If not, you missed something and you will need try the above again. If you have these two files, you are completely up-to-date by the opinions of the iPhone Dev-Team.
